The National Parks Service has announced that the peak blooms this year for the cherry blossoms will be March 23-26.
To help gauge peak blooms, historic records are looked at, as well as warming trends in the forecast. Global warming has pushed peak bloom earlier and earlier each year. Assisting in the peak forecast is a specific Yoshino tree along the Tidal Basin that tends to run 10-14 days ahead of all the other trees.
