Thanksgiving Turkey Trots in the DC Area

by | Nov 6, 2023

For some families, turkey trots are an annual tradition and a great way to burn off some calories before the big feast.  Luckily for those who live in the DMV, there are plenty of choices to choose from whether you’re looking for a one mile, two mile, 5K, five mile, or 10K.

DC’s America’s Trot for Hunger is the only Thanksgiving Day race in DC and includes a one-miler at 9:15am or a 5K at 9:40am.  The 5K finishes near the National Mall where a finisher festival will take place from 9:30-11:30am.

Some of the Maryland Turkey Trots are supporting great organizations including A Wider Circle, which helps end poverty, Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services to support those facing homelessness, and the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.  The largest race in Montgomery County is the Turkey Chase in Bethesda which includes a 10K at 8:30 and two mile run at 9am.  Want to bring your four-legged family member?  Six YMCA locations in Maryland offer dog friendly races.

As with Maryland, Virginia has races that support local organizations including Sweet Julia Grace Foundation for kids dealing with medical crisis, Hero’s Bridge which helps veterans, Britepaths which offers support for children in Fairfax County, Crossroads UMC offering financial assistance, goods and educational services and eighteen other local organizations.  Races will be held in Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Manassas, Ashburn and Reston.
