Sustainable Ideas for Your Living Room

by | Apr 1, 2024

Sustainability is something that home buyers take into consideration, according to a 2022 survey of real estate professionals, with 63% saying that mentioning energy efficiency in a listing is very valuable when selling a home.  So whether you’re looking to sell your home, have just purchased one, or just want to add sustainability to your home, here are some ideas for your living room.

When picking out furniture for your living room, think second hand.  Shop antique stores, estate sales or your local nonprofit second hand store and you’ll find some treasures that with little to no TLC can become a great piece for your home.  With furniture being mass produced in today’s world, going for an older piece might provide more sturdiness while keeping it out of a landfill.

Sustainable materials such as reclaimed wood, cork and textiles can be great on walls.

If you’re looking to save on utilities, install energy efficient lighting and electronics.  For heating, add a pellet stove.  Pellet stoves are the second cost efficient fuel, dried hardwood is first, and the pellets are made from recycled pallets which is just another way to reduce, reuse and recycle in your living room.
